Homebytes.com said it agreed to buy Owners.com, one of its main rivals in the business of helping homeowners sell houses over the Internet. Terms weren’t disclosed.

* PanAmSat Corp., the largest commercial-satellite operator, said third-quarter profit fell 73% to $9.25 million, or 6 cents a share, on increased costs. The company, 81% owned by Hughes Electronics Corp., said revenue fell 5.4% to $199.3 million.

* Sotheby’s Holdings Inc. and Internet retailer Amazon.com Inc. plan to shut down in the next 30 days their jointly operated Web site, Sothebys.Amazon.com, which sells paintings, antiques and collectibles. Visitors will be re-directed to Sothebys.com, which will be a featured link on Amazon.com.
