Skateboards Are Ready Transport

Re “A Skateboarder With a Cause” (Oct. 13):
I am a student at Dana Hills High School, which is a part of the Capistrano Unified School District. The “no skateboards on campus” rule is also in effect at my school. I agree with Andrew Gazdecki completely. If you are allowed to ride bikes to school, then why not skateboards?
I understand that the rules have been around for a long time, but times are changing. For many guys and girls skateboarding is an activity that they really enjoy. Why pollute the Earth to drive a student to school when he could just as easily skate there? There are ways for this problem to be solved. For example, Cypress High School installed a skateboard rack that cost around $1,000. I think that the schools could afford that and it would make a lot of people happy.
Skateboarding is a good way for students to supply their own self-sufficient way of transportation to school, and I see nothing wrong with that. This problem should be looked into more by the school board, and a different rule should be put into effect. Good luck, Andrew.
