Faulds Topples Mark in Double Trap Shootoff

Richard Faulds of Britain won the men’s double trap in a shootoff with defending gold medalist Russell Mark of Australia at Sydney.
Renata Mauer-Rozanska of Poland won the gold medal in the women’s 50-meter rifle, again denying world-champion Sonja Pfeilschifter an Olympic medal.
Mark, the 1996 Atlanta double trap champion, led through most of the competition today but faltered in the final regulation round and the playoff, taking silver.
Fehaid Al Deehani of Kuwait won the bronze with a score of 186.
In the first round of the shootout, Mark and Faulds each hit one of two targets. Mark also was one for two in the second round, but Faulds nailed both to capture the gold.
Mauer-Rozanska, the 1996 Olympic champion in the 10-meter air rifle, won the 50 meter with 684.6 points.
Tatiana Goldobina of Russia won the silver with 680.9 and Maria Feklistova of Russia scored 679.9 to take the bronze.
