Anaheim police arrested a 23-year-old woman on suspicion of drunk driving and hit-and-run after a crash that injured an Anaheim police officer on bicycle patrol early Friday, authorities said.
Jennifer Lynn Kirk of Garden Grove was taken into custody a short time later and held on suspicion of drunk driving, driving with a suspended license and felony hit-and-run, Anaheim Police Sgt. Rick Martinez said.
The officer, whose name was not released, was struck from behind about 1:10 a.m. on La Palma Avenue and East Street, Martinez said.
“The impact threw him onto the hood of the car, and the momentum of the car threw him onto the street,” Martinez added.
The officer was wearing a helmet but suffered an arm injury. Martinez said the officer was treated at Anaheim Memorial Medical Center and released.
When the small, two-door coupe fled the scene, a second bicycle officer called in a description of it. Responding officers spotted the car, which had stopped several blocks away, with Kirk and another woman inside, Martinez said.
