Collison Sparks Kansas, 78-62

Nick Collison scored 11 of his 19 points in the first 10 minutes of the second half and No. 4 Kansas pulled away to a 78-62 victory over Princeton on Wednesday night at Princeton, N.J.

It was the Tigers’ third loss in three games against Top 10 teams.

The Jayhawks (7-1), whose only loss came in their season opener against Ball State, used a 10-0 run for a 31-12 lead with 7:44 to play in the first half.

But Princeton (2-6) closed the half with a 12-2 spurt, and Ed Persia’s three-point basket at the buzzer pulled the Tigers within 35-29 and had the sellout crowd of 6,854 at Jadwin Gymnasium thinking upset.

Collison scored six points in the Jayhawks’ 10-0 run to start the second half. Persia made consecutive three-pointers to make the score, 45-34. But Collison had a three-point play on a dunk after a steal as Kansas used a 9-0 run to take a 58-37 lead with 9:33 to play.

The Tigers never got closer than 15 afterward.

No. 15 Iowa 101, Drake 59--Luke Recker ended a shooting slump with a season-high 24 points, and the Hawkeyes broke the game open with a 28-5 run at Iowa City.

Reggie Evans had 19 points and 10 rebounds for Iowa (8-3), which shot 62.5% in building a 25-point halftime lead.

The Hawkeyes defeated Drake (4-3) for the 23rd consecutive time.

Drake shot 36%, and Luke McDonald, who was averaging 19.5 points, was held to nine.

It was the biggest margin of victory in a series that dates to 1909. The most one-sided game previously was a 52-11 victory by Iowa in 1932.

Recker, who had been shooting 39%, made his first five shots and finished nine for 13.

J.J. Sola led Drake with 19 points.
