Union’s Endorsement
* Isn’t it ironic that on the same day that Assemblyman Antonio Villaraigosa is trumpeting about his candidacy being “first-tiered” following his AFL-CIO endorsement (“Villaraigosa Wins Key Labor Endorsement in Mayor’s Race,” Feb. 13), he is also being lambasted for his shady, Third World brokering of a cash-for-clemency deal for a convicted cocaine dealer. Don’t this first-tiered candidate’s Third World dealings smack of a second-rate mayoral candidate? Although it’s unlikely that the union would eat crow and reverse itself, perhaps union officials should take a second look at their man.
