Bankruptcy Bill

Re “Bush Crawls Into Bed With the Money Lenders,” Commentary, March 20: While I’m no fan of credit card companies, there’s no excuse to abdicate personal responsibility. With personal bankruptcies up almost threefold in the last 15 years, there is clearly a growing lack of respect for money and discipline in spending. I heard someone say recently that blaming the credit card companies is like blaming restaurants for one’s overeating. It’s prudent to either walk away from the table or request a doggy bag.
Taking a few minutes to read the credit card company’s application/contract wouldn’t hurt, either.
