Alan L. Pultz, 64; Director of ABC’s ‘General Hospital’

Alan L. Pultz, 64, an award-winning director of the long-running ABC soap opera “General Hospital,” died Oct. 25 at his home in Encino.
During his 22 years directing the show, Pultz won three Emmys and a Directors Guild of America Award.
Pultz, a New York native who studied at the University of North Carolina and served as a lieutenant in the Navy, began his TV career in the early 1960s.
He worked his way up from theater manager, production assistant and associate director of programs such as “The Jimmy Dean Show” and “Who Do You Trust?” Among his early credits as a director were “A Time for Us” and “One Life to Live.”
He later directed “Wide World of Sports,” Olympic Games coverage and American Football League games.
