Two men were killed and a 9-year-old boy was injured Sunday morning when the car they were riding in rammed a big rig parked on a street dividing Reseda and Tarzana, police said.
Erasmo Amaya, 22, of Canoga Park was driving a Honda Accord about 7:45 a.m. when it struck the cargo trailer of a truck in the 18600 block of Oxnard Street, near Baird Avenue, police said.
The impact killed Amaya and passenger Jony Menjivar-Jovel, 18, of El Salvador. Amaya’s 9-year-old cousin was trapped underneath the 53-foot trailer. The boy was wearing his seat belt, which may have saved his life, Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey said. No one was in the truck.
The boy, who lives in Winnetka, was recovering Sunday from minor injuries, Humphrey said.
