Brown May Go on Disabled List

General Manager Dan Evans said Thursday that the Dodgers will consider putting pitcher Kevin Brown on the disabled list if he is unable to make his next start.
Brown, who re-injured his surgically repaired right arm while pitching last weekend in San Diego, missed his scheduled turn Thursday night and was replaced by Omar Daal in the Dodgers’ 5-2 victory over San Diego.
Brown has been playing catch on flat ground from as far as 75 feet for the last three days as he attempts to recover from torn scar tissue. He took the day off Thursday and will resume playing catch today.
The Dodgers don’t play Monday so Brown’s next start would not be until Wednesday at Pittsburgh.
“The disabled list becomes a situation we have to consider if it begins to affect the club or puts us in a situation where he is unable to make his next start,” Evans said.
Brown said he does not have a timetable for when he will return to the mound.
“It’s a matter of what they say they want me to do and what my arm says I can do,” Brown said.
Brown has been on the disabled list four times since signing a $105-million free-agent contract with the Dodgers on Dec 12, 1998. He said he is more cautious when returning from injuries because of the experience.
“In the past, if I felt what I felt the other day [in San Diego], I would have walked around the mound, shook it off and gotten back on the mound again,” Brown said. “Having gone through what I went through with the surgery, obviously you’re more cautious because you’re not sure what’s going on.”
Brown, however, said he does not think he will need a rehabilitation start.
