State investigators said Monday they are trying to negotiate the surrender of a dentist accused with two co-defendants in a scheme to swindle $200,000 from Medi-Cal. An arrest warrant has been issued for Mehmet S. Giz, a licensed dentist who worked for $300 a day at the Knott Dental Care clinic in Buena Park before it closed in May 2001. Authorities said Giz is in Turkey and that they are in phone contact with him.
Former billing clerk Margaret L. Chaves, 47, of Whittier and Giz, 83, formerly of Rosemead, are charged with three counts each of grand theft, filing false information with a government agency and fraudulently billing Medi-Cal.
