For Bathing Beauties

We called a few local bath and body shops to ask: What’s your best seller?
Foam, Los Feliz
Soapscum bath candies ($12): “Remember the bath fizzies, the big bath bombs that come in a single ball? Well, these are miniatures. They come in little candy papers in boxes of 12, and you need like three per bath. They fizz a little, dissolve and scent the water. They have the most amazing flavors: tea rose, peach-ginger, cucumber, peppermint, almond vanilla and orange vanilla, which is like a 50-50 bar.”
--Jacqueline Smith, owner
Lather, Pasadena
Yuzu Body Wash ($24): “Everyone loves this product. It’s made with yuzu (a Japanese citrus) essential oil. We press the rind to get the oil out of it. It has the sweetness and sharpness of grapefruit, but many other, deeper flavors: notes of bitter and sweet. Use it in the bath as a bubble bath or in the shower as a liquid soap.”
--Emilie Davidson-Hoyt, owner
Splash Bath and Body, Hermosa Beach
Milk & Honey Sugar Scrub ($27): “This is a sugar scrub we make that can be used on the face and body to gently exfoliate. People open up the tester jar to smell it and say, ‘Oh, God, I have to have that.’ It almost smells like a sugar cookie. Because of the sugar and milk proteins and sweet almond oil and kukui nut, it’s exfoliating and moisturizing at the same time. And it’s a scent that really lingers.”

Glisten, Beverly Hills
Mango Watermelon Candle ($13): “We started with just this one candle. But it’s still by far the best seller. For some reason, people just go nuts for the smell. It actually smells like a really pungent mango or watermelon, but it’s not sickly sweet. People bring it into the bathroom, take a tub and have it burning.”
--Amanda Silverman, co-owner
Glow, Los Angeles
Glow Cakes ($5 each): “These are super-large, all-natural fizzy cakes shaped like miniature bundt cakes [to place in] the tub. They’re very skin softening. We do eight different scents. Gardenia is probably the most popular, but the vitamin C and eucalyptus mint are great for this time of year. My personal favorite is the geranium lavender.”
--Terri Williamson, co-owner
Palmetto, Los Angeles
La Bouquetiere Plaisir D’Amour Body Wash ($26): “This is a bath and shower gel that leaves no residue. The scent, which means ‘the joys of love,’ smells of amber woods laced with lily of the valley. And it comes in a beautiful silver and white metal container that looks so lovely in the bathroom.”
--Helena Apothaker, manager
Fred Segal Essentials, Santa Monica
Fresh Brown Sugar Body Polish ($60): “Everybody’s buying it. We sell it to moms and daughters. It smells like you’re baking cookies. It’s great for this time of year because it exfoliates all your dead skin and gives you a nice, thick moisturizer. You use it in the shower.”
