Death by Progress

Re “Farmers Market Putting on Ritz,” Feb. 8: Farmers Market is where time has stood still. For this tactless Frenchman, Stephan Strouk, to lash out at the longtime merchants (“They’re not really, really businesspeople”) is crass. His plan, which apparently is to replace the southeast corner market that could have appeared in “Double Indemnity” with a 7,000-square-foot international gourmet market, is Farmers Market’s death knell. Just bulldoze the place so he can have 50,000 square feet.
