2 Held in Slaying of Catholic Postal Worker

Police detained two men in the shooting death of a Roman Catholic postal worker in a Protestant area of Belfast, the Northern Irish provincial capital.
“It’s some progress in an absolutely tragic situation,” said Chief Constable Ronnie Flanagan of the Police Service of Northern Ireland. The two men were not identified.
Police said Daniel McColgan, 20, was shot several times as he arrived for work at a Royal Mail sorting office in the Rathcoole neighborhood of northern Belfast just before 5 a.m. Saturday. He died two hours later in a hospital.
Assistant Chief Constable Alan McQuillan said he believed that a faction of the pro-British Ulster Defense Assn. was responsible.
