KCOP’s Dumbing Down Isn’t News

Thank you to Howard Rosenberg for telling it like it is in his column about KCOP’s nightly newscast (“UPN 13’s News for Dummies,” May 6). He couldn’t heap enough ridicule on those clowns to satisfy me--and I don’t mean to disparage any actual clowns by comparing them to the blow-dried and glossy bunch at Channel 13.
“UPN News 13” is like the forgotten candy bar one finds in the back of a drawer: a gooey, artificial mess that, once consumed, leaves one feeling slightly queasy and full of regret.

Finally, someone has printed what has been too painfully obvious for much too long. I moved to Los Angeles two years ago and have been ranting to my friends about Channel 13 news since I arrived.
Truthfully, what is so upsetting about “UPN News 13” is not the fact that such tripe is on television; the show is certainly not completely devoid of entertainment value. It is simply the matter that the show attempts to pass itself off as news (and prime-time news at that).

Dude, it’s L.A. In California, dude, dummies are the biggest demo. You know what I mean, dude? I mean, like, you know, Barbara Boxer and Gray Davis got elected, man. So, chill, dude.
