Golf Regional to Resume Thursday

The Southern Section Southern Regional individual golf tournament, canceled Monday at Tijeras Creek Golf Course because of a fire in the Rancho Santa Margarita area, has been rescheduled for Thursday at Coto de Caza Golf and Country Club.

The tournament, a qualifier for the section finals Monday at Canyon Country Club in Palm Springs, will be a shotgun start at 2:30 p.m.

“For Coto to pull this off with two days notice is unbelievable,” tournament manager Bob Bosanko said. “We could have had them playing at some par-three course.”

The tournament began Monday before the fire started, but was called off after about 90 minutes. The Orange County Sheriff’s Dept. evacuated the course because helicopters needed access to the course’s lakes for water to combat the fire.
