The dengue fever outbreak in Hawaii that began last year has been brought under control, the Hawaii Department of Health said earlier this month.
The state’s last confirmed case of the mosquito-borne illness, which can cause high fever, rash, joint and muscle pain and other symptoms, was Feb. 9, said spokeswoman Janice Okubo. A total of 119 cases, mostly on Maui plus a few on Oahu and Kauai, has been recorded since May 31, 2001, she said.
Before this outbreak, Hawaii had not had a locally transmitted case of dengue fever since World War II.
