A 140-unit luxury apartment project has been completed near the Gold Line rail stop at Lake Avenue in Pasadena, one of several residential complexes being built or planned in the city.
The $32-million Pasadena Gateway Villas at Hudson Avenue and Locust Street is a four-story Mediterranean and Spanish Revival-style complex in two wings separated by a 9,600-square-foot courtyard. It was designed by Santa Monica architect Thomas Landau and developed by the pension fund of Pasadena-based International Union of Operating Engineers Local No. 12.
The intersection near Lake Avenue and the 210 Freeway has become the hub of an emerging upscale neighborhood of $600,000 condominiums and $3,000-a-month penthouse apartments. Rents at the Gateway Villas will run from $1,150 to $3,250.
The neighborhood is part of a residential building boom orchestrated by city officials and private investors. Nearly 2,000 housing units have been built recently or are under construction, and hundreds more are in the planning stages, according to city estimates.
The Gold Line, which will connect Pasadena and downtown Los Angeles, is set to open in July.
