A Sad, Noble Duty

Thank you for “Notifying Officers Dread ‘The Call,’ ” (April 13). I can’t imagine there’s a soldier, sailor, airman or Marine who, upon enlistment, contemplates pulling casualty-notification duty. I also can’t imagine a nobler military calling, short of laying down one’s life to save others. Regardless of one’s feelings about the current conflict, it is impossible not to admire such officers; they are, indeed, “the embodiment of the armed forces,” and bless them for that.
