Elder to Pray for Doomed Tree in Thousand Oaks

A Chumash spiritual elder will be featured in a Thousand Oaks ceremony Friday night to pay tribute to an oak tree that crews are set to cut down Saturday.
Richard Angulo plans to offer a prayer during the event to honor Oak No. 139, which stands near the main entrance to City Hall.
The tree is about 45 feet tall and is estimated to be more than 200 years old.
“Let’s hope the tree goes gentle and proud,” said Angulo, whose Indian name is Black Bear.
The tree was diagnosed with oak root fungus more than a decade before the Civic Arts Plaza was built around it in 1994.
The program begins at 7 p.m. City Hall is at 2100 Thousand Oaks Blvd.
