From Times Staff Reports
A loud test blast on bedrock is scheduled for 4 p.m. today in the Newport Coast area.
The blast is expected to last about 1 1/2 seconds, according to Donna Boston, a Newport Beach Fire Department spokeswoman. It will help determine how much explosive will be needed to clear away the bedrock so that development about 3,500 feet south of Signal Peak between Los Trancos Canyon and Muddy Canyon can proceed.
