A San Clemente man who was wounded by a deputy after he allegedly reached for a gun was identified Tuesday as Hilmer Ula Jarbo Jr., police said.
Jarbo, 56, remained in critical condition with two gunshot wounds to the upper torso at a Mission Viejo hospital, police said.
Investigators said the deputy had been talking to Jarbo about a hit-and-run accident when Jarbo reached for a gun. After he was shot, Jarbo ran inside his home and barricaded himself for five hours, until a police dog was sent inside.
