Tuesday: Iraqi President Saddam Hussein donned military uniform and called his country to war, rejecting with contempt a U.S. ultimatum that he give up power. His foreign minister suggested that President Bush and British Prime Minister Tony Blair leave office instead. Nearly frantic, the men and women of Baghdad wondered how -- and if -- they would come out of a war.
* Government-organized demonstrations sprouted, along with machine guns and sandbag bunkers.
* In Britain, Blair won parliamentary approval to use force against Iraq.
Today: French Foreign Minister Dominique de Villepin will return to the U.N. Security Council along with six other envoys to listen to plans for weapons inspectors to finish disarming Iraq, even though they have left the country.
Bush’s 48-hour ultimatum to Hussein expires.
