Aiello sues over NYC studio plans

Actor Danny Aiello and a group of businessmen have filed a $30-million lawsuit claiming the city of New York sabotaged their attempt to build a movie studio on a stretch of vacant city-owned land on Staten Island’s waterfront.
In court papers, the group says it had already spent $2 million on building the Stapleton Studios when the city moved in September 2002 to evict them from the 36-acre property, a former Navy yard on Staten Island’s north shore.
A spokeswoman for the city’s Law Department said the complaint was being evaluated. Meanwhile, a spokesman for the city’s Economic Development Corp. said Mayor Michael Bloomberg has appointed a task force to study the best possible use of the property.
