Driver, 2 Passengers Die in North Hollywood Crash

A driver and two of his three passengers were killed when his speeding car hit a median and crashed into two trees in North Hollywood early Sunday morning, authorities said.
The 1993 Honda Accord was moving at a high rate of speed about 12:20 a.m. when Jorge Zamora, 20, of Pacoima apparently lost control of the vehicle on Vineland Avenue, north of McCormick Street, said Los Angeles Police Officer Dean Schram of the Valley Traffic Division.
The front-seat passenger died at the scene. Zamora died at Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center in Burbank, and another passenger died at Sherman Oaks Hospital and Health Center, Schram said.
A fourth passenger, a 16-year-old boy, was in critical condition at County-USC Medical Center, police said. He suffered a fractured neck, pelvis and right leg, Schram said.
There was no preliminary indication that alcohol was involved. It was not known if the victims were using seat belts.
“To the best of my recollection, this is the first triple death in an accident we’ve had in the Valley this year,” Police Sgt. Charles Swanson said.
