Aural Argument

Would “Police Eye in the Sky Is Flying High-Tech” (Sept. 19) have been so glowing about Pasadena police entrepreneurship if, instead of helicopters, it had discovered the department resuscitating 40-year-old, polluting, military-surplus squad cars without mufflers?
The din of these old birds (much quieter craft are available) fills the Pasadena evening. The ratio of benefits to costs of the helicopter patrols may warrant their noise, but this uncritical reporting doesn’t enlighten.
