Teen Hurt in Collapse of Tunnel

A 15-year-old Oxnard boy was in critical condition late Saturday after a sand tunnel he was digging at Hollywood Beach collapsed, trapping him for several minutes.
The accident occurred about 6:30 p.m. at a section of the beach near Ocean Drive and Channel Islands Boulevard, authorities said.
The unidentified teen and four friends had dug the sand tunnel using small shovels.
The victim was the only one inside the tunnel when it collapsed.
Several people at the scene helped dig out the youth, who remained buried for about five minutes, authorities said.
One of the rescuers performed CPR until paramedics arrived. The victim was then taken to Ventura County Medical Center.
