Crane Mishap Closes 2 Lanes of Freeway

Two lanes of the southbound Long Beach Freeway were closed late into the night Tuesday after a crane on the back of a big-rig truck slammed into an overpass.
The truck carried a 21-foot-tall Caterpillar skip loader, the California Highway Patrol said. The overpass was 14 feet high. The accident occurred just after 4 p.m. near the Anaheim Street onramp.

Freeway accident -- A brief item in Wednesday’s California section said a crane carried by a big rig struck a freeway overpass in Bell Gardens. The accident occurred in Long Beach, and the overpass was struck by a skip loader.
The CHP closed right two lanes while Caltrans inspected the bridge for possible structural damage.
