Blood Sales Banned in Attempt to Prevent AIDS

China’s parliament passed a law to try to prevent the spread of AIDS by banning the purchase or sale of blood. Lawmakers also outlawed discrimination against victims of infectious diseases.
Another piece of new legislation requires the government to guarantee funds for infectious disease prevention.
“The law stipulates that governments ... should strengthen prevention and control of AIDS and take measures to prevent the spread of the disease,” the state-run New China News Agency said. “This is the first time that AIDS [has been] specifically targeted in the law.”
