Los Angeles City Councilman Antonio Villaraigosa, who is weighing a run for mayor, voted Friday against extending one of the Department of Water and Power’s legal contracts.
The council overwhelmingly approved the $1.25-million contract extension with Van Ness Feldman to help recover millions of dollars the DWP is owed from the state energy crisis.
Villaraigosa said he had no problem with the contract but is worried about the DWP’s oversight of contracts, adding that it may have been the victim of overbilling by a public relations firm.
