A Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy was shot and critically injured and a suspect was killed Wednesday night in Hacienda Heights.
The shootout occurred about 10 p.m. at a Motel 6 in the 1100 block of 7th Avenue.
Authorities said the deputy apparently exchanged gunfire with two suspects, killing one, whose body lay on a motel balcony. The second was being sought, and reportedly had fired randomly in the area after the shootings.
The deputy was airlifted to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center.
The area around the motel was cordoned off, and the Pomona Freeway was shut down in both directions from the San Gabriel River Freeway and Hacienda Boulevard.
Near midnight, at least 50 deputies were on the scene.
