Embattled Governor Leaves Bush Campaign

Gov. John G. Rowland, plagued by a federal corruption investigation and legislative impeachment inquiry, has stepped down as chairman of President Bush’s reelection campaign in Connecticut and will not lead the state’s delegation to the GOP convention, a Republican Party representative said.
Rowland, a longtime Bush family friend, is the target of federal and legislative investigations into gifts he received and alleged contract manipulation.
Lt. Gov. M. Jodi Rell will take over leadership of the Connecticut contingent at the convention.
