Shawnee Slade Aiming to Start a New Streak
- Share via
Shawnee Slade, who had a win streak end at three April 2, will try to begin another in tonight’s $15,000 Pacific Beach Handicap at 350 yards.
Trained by Adan Farias for owner Rachel Vargas, Shawnee Slade, a 4-year-old Red Hot Rhythm mare, finished second to an extremely sharp That Lovely Day in the Paradise Handicap last month.
The loss by a head came after the Utah-bred had begun 2004 with three consecutive victories. Rider Rodrigo Aceves retains the mount in the field of six.
Sammies White Chick, who was fifth in her first race for trainer Paul Jones, should improve off the effort as it came after a seven-month layoff. The 6-year-old Chicks Beduino mare has won six of 22 and will break from the rail under jockey Ramon Sanchez.
Yak Ity Yak Go, Pennants Chick, Chicks And Ladies and Kelia Vista complete the cast.
The picks: 1. Emmy Time. 2. Chinook Pass. 3. Riggsmarolle. 4. Dutch Coin. 5. La Tonita. 6. Well Known Act. 7. Taz. 8. Cheyennes Dasher. 9. Shawnee Slade. 10. Leavinem High.
Four! Emmy Time in the first, Chinook Pass, Dagoberry and Dash On Johnny in the second, Riggsmarolle and Wylackie Spirit in the third and Dutch Coin, Hitmeonemoretime and Brite Future in the fourth.
