Let the Union Manage the State’s Prisons
“Union Keeps Tight Rein on Prisons” (May 24) causes me to ask a rather simple question: If the prison guards union is making the management decisions at the prisons, why do we need management? Lots of institutions have outgrown the Roman Empire’s pyramid style of management. Why do we need to pay for the conflict between management and the union? Let’s just contract with the union to run the prisons.
If its members can’t do it, then we throw them out and contract with another group that can. Let the union absorb the liability and the rest of the headaches and do the whole job. We should save money on the deal and get a better prison system.
