Arafat bulletin riles ‘CSI’ fans

When Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat died Wednesday night, CBS News jumped into action, but it was a little too quickly for some East Coast TV viewers.
With minutes remaining in “CSI: NY,” CBS switched to a special report on Arafat’s death, leaving the murder drama viewers hanging and some of them unhappy. CBS apologized Thursday, saying, “An overly aggressive CBS News producer jumped the gun with a report that should have been offered to local stations for their late news.”
A rerun of the episode was quickly scheduled for tonightat 10, preempting a repeat episode of “CSI.”
Because of the time difference, Wednesday’s news bulletin wasn’t as big a deal in the L.A. market, where KCBS-TV Channel 2 was showing the syndicated entertainment news program “The Insider.”
