Carl Ghormley, 86; With His Wife, He Helped Found Project Mexico to Assist Orphans

Carl Ghormley, 86, who with his late wife Harriett helped found Project Mexico, a philanthropic program in Mexico that helps orphans, died Tuesday in a specialized care center in the South Bay, according to his son, Tomas.
Ghormley, who was also active in many other community organizations, and his family in 1982 completed an 18-year effort to walk the California coast from the border with Mexico to Oregon.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army, retiring as a lieutenant colonel. He was awarded several honors, including the Bronze Star.
