Green Bay Packer wide receiver Javon Walker will sit out the rest of the season after severely injuring his right knee in the team’s opening loss at Detroit on Sunday.
Walker will need an operation once the swelling subsides to repair the torn anterior cruciate ligament and will require eight to 12 months of rehabilitation.
“Talking to him last night, he’s very positive and upbeat about it, understands what’s ahead of him and is planning on breaking all kinds of records and getting back sooner,” Coach Mike Sherman said Monday.
Walker made the Pro Bowl last season after catching 89 passes for 1,382 yards and 12 touchdowns.

Carolina defensive tackle Kris Jenkins is out for the rest of the season after injuring his knee in the Panthers’ loss to the New Orleans Saints.
Jenkins, a 2003 All-Pro, tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee, the Panthers said.
Jenkins was injured when he broke through the line and tried to tackle Deuce McAllister in the backfield in the first quarter. He left but returned briefly in the third quarter, only to have to be helped off the field again.

Mark Brunell needed only one game to become the starting quarterback for the Washington Redskins, with Patrick Ramsey undone by an interception and two fumbles.
Joe Gibbs said Brunell would start next Monday night against the Dallas Cowboys.
Gibbs said Ramsey’s sore neck had nothing to do with the decision. The coach instead cited his limited patience for turnovers as a reason.
