From Times Wire Reports
Hosni Mubarak was sworn in for a new six-year presidential term and pledged to reform Egypt’s economy and politics. However, the political opposition and economists were skeptical.
Mubarak, 77, won 88% of the vote in the Sept. 7 election, Egypt’s first multi-candidate presidential poll, but turnout was only 23%.
His critics want him to lift emergency laws in force since 1981, restrict to two terms the time anyone can remain president, and relax restrictions on forming new political parties.
