From Times Wire Reports
The death toll from flash floods spawned by Typhoon Damrey more than doubled, with Vietnam saying it had recovered the bodies of 33 people swept away in its northern mountains.
The new deaths reported there and elsewhere took the toll in Damrey’s rampage across the Philippines, China’s Hainan island, Vietnam, Laos and Thailand to at least 69.
Several people were still missing in Vietnam. Four died in similar torrents in Thailand; China and the Philippines each reported 16 deaths.
Damrey means “elephant” in Cambodia’s Khmer language.
