A sci-fi nerd -- and proud of it

Great article on science fiction [“Sci-Fi Addict Can’t OD,” Sept. 22]. For the longest time, I was a nerd by association. My father and three brothers were all engineers (known lovingly at our house as “enginerds”). I made a Spock uniform for my brother in the ‘60s -- he still has it!
Fast forward to the man I married -- Academy Award-winning artist Doug Drexler. He spent 15 years working on “Star Trek” (“The Next Generation,” “Deep Space 9,” “Voyager” and “Enterprise”) and is now the computer graphics supervisor on “Battlestar Galactica.” As luck would have it, I ended up with my own nerd stripes. I was the food stylist on “Enterprise” for all four seasons. You hang around long enough and you get sucked into the vortex.
