Panel Repeats Request to Question Assad

A U.N. panel investigating the killing of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri said it had asked a second time to question Syrian President Bashar Assad, turning up the pressure after an ex-Syrian vice president said Assad had issued a threat before the February assassination.
The commission’s spokeswoman said it also wants to interview the former vice president, Abdel-Halim Khaddam, “as soon as possible.”
The panel asked to interview Assad in July but was refused.
