California Could Use an Eliot Spitzer
Why does it take a New York public official to come to the aid of California victims of the insurance broker kickback scheme (“Insurance Broker to Settle Charges,” Jan. 6)?
Didn’t we elect an insurance commissioner in this state to do exactly that kind of thing for us?
For reasons he’s never been able to explain, California Insurance Commissioner John Garamendi chose to ally with disgraced broker Universal Life Resources -- the same company New York’s Eliot Spitzer has forced to give $2 million back to policyholders.
Wouldn’t it be great if we had an advocate like that?
