Computer Glitch Delays Delivery of Ventura Paper

A computer hardware problem prevented the Ventura County Star from printing and delivering its complete Sunday edition to its 103,000 subscribers, the newspaper said.
The problem, which prevented the newspaper from transmitting pages to its printing facility in Camarillo, surfaced Saturday evening after the Star had already printed many of its sections, including business, classified and travel. The main news sections hadn’t yet gone to press, however.
The Star, which is owned by the E.W. Scripps Co., was able to arrange with the Santa Barbara News-Press to print those sections Sunday morning, but not in time to deliver copies to subscribers or newsstands.
Copies of those sections were made available on the Star’s website while the newspaper worked on delivering preprinted sections to customers by Sunday night. Editor Joe Howry said the news pages would be delivered with Monday’s edition.
The problem was compounded when the newspaper’s phone system failed under the increased volume of calls.
