Heat’s on over climate change

Re “Waxman prods White House for climate documents,” Jan. 31
On reading this article, I had a feeling of deja vu. I’m old enough to remember the two countries that were masters of this technique, i.e., if scientific truth doesn’t suit your agenda, you simply deny it or change it to your benefit. It seems that the Bush administration has been caught following the tactics of Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union.

Re “Climate is changing, politically,” Jan. 31
It’s good to hear that our political leaders are taking climate change seriously. But they must follow through on their pledges to take swift, decisive action to reverse the effects of global warming. Those who continue to complain that such action will be too costly to industry aren’t just out of the mainstream. They’re ignoring the truth that moving too slowly or taking half-measures will result in immeasurably worse economic damage to future generations, who will be left to deal with the overwhelming consequences of our inertia. Now is not the time to waver.
