After a 30-year trademark battle over the Apple name and logo, the Beatles’ record label (Apple Corps Ltd.) settled a lawsuit with the well-known computer company (Apple Inc.) on Monday. The Los Angeles Times wrote that “the long and winding road that would allow music lovers to finally meet the Beatles via digital downloads still has a few miles to go,” while the New York Times noted that “the long and winding road has come to an end for the Beatles.” In London, the Guardian wrote, “It has been a long and winding road paved with 30 years of disharmony.” Meanwhile, headline writers around the world reached for a broader mix of allusions.
