Emmys enlist ‘Idol’ producers

A pair of “American Idol” executive producers will bring their song and dance to the 59th Primetime Emmy Awards this fall in hopes of juicing the show’s recent lackluster ratings.
Nigel Lythgoe and Ken Warwick were appointed Wednesday to take charge of the TV industry’s biggest night, which will be broadcast from the Shrine Auditorium Sept. 16 on Fox.
Like most TV award shows, the Emmys has seen a steady erosion in its viewership in recent years. Last year’s Emmy broadcast on NBC, with an average viewership of 16.18 million, was the second least-watched Emmy telecast since 1991.
