Teachers in the Los Angeles Unified School District have voted overwhelmingly to ratify a new contract, union leaders announced Thursday.
More than 24,000 teachers -- about half the number of teachers in the mammoth district -- cast ballots, with nine of 10 voting for the contract.
The three-year agreement gives teachers a 6% salary increase for the current school year, with salary negotiations for the coming two years to begin soon. It also calls for the district to gradually reduce class sizes in many grades.
