It isn’t democracy

Re “Unopposed board raised $8 million,” May 13
The fact that the Los Angeles County supervisors are running unopposed, intimidating would-be opponents with huge campaign war chests, means that the big-money campaign donors who fill those war chests are effectively choosing who gets to run and who gets to hold office. Last time I checked, democracy was supposed to be about government of, by and for the people, not of, by and for wealthy campaign donors. We need public financing of campaigns.
