‘Baron’ parallels

THANKS to Sam Adams [“Master of Big Fantasy,” April 6] for reminding me how much I loved “The Adventures of Baron Munchausen,” Terry Gilliam’s fabulist fairy tale now 20 years(!) old and out on DVD.
Seeing the movie upon its original release in 1988, I was sure the director was making a political satire about the waning years of the Reagan administrations.
Indeed, John Neville as the storytelling Baron seemed to be made up with Ronald Reagan’s nose, which appeared to grow longer with each fantasy he strung from here to the moon and beyond. (Anyone recall Reagan’s tale of driving down -- some said off -- the PCH?)
