A 22-year-old gang member has been arrested on suspicion of wounding the mother of a Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy in her West Whittier neighborhood earlier this month when he apparently targeted the wrong home, authorities said Friday.
Ruben Amperano was taken into custody July 10, four days after he allegedly fired into the home of Anita Rodriguez in the 11700 block of Keith Drive, said Sgt. Mark Bailey. A second gunman remains at large, he said.
Detectives also want to question three other people in connection with the shooting, Bailey said. They are Bernard Castillo, 19; Rene Rascon, 21; and Richard Jasso, 18, Bailey said.
Rodriguez was hit near her neck and was taken to a hospital and later released, he said. Her home was mistakenly targeted by gang members who believed it was the residence of rival gang members, Bailey said.
